Lot Description
**Griffin & Howe Model 1903 with Carl Zeiss Jena Scope on Side Mount
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 941. Blued metal finish with jeweled bolt, highly figured walnut semi-pistol grip stock, and engraved metal work. Bolt action internal magazine fed repeating rifle that features Griffin & Howe's side-mounted scope base marked GRIFFIN & HOWE/PAT. APPL. FOR within a fine spiral scroll border on its upper surface. Both scope rings feature similar engraving and secure a CARL ZEISS/JENA/Zielklein scope with serial number 56055. Further spiral scrollwork adorns the left flank of the scope mount and base. Top of the barrel features the maker marking No 941 GRIFFIN & HOWE, INC. NEW YORK. The iron sights are usable beneath the optic, and consist of a matted rear notch sight with three folding notches paired with a fully hooded front blade on a matted front ramp. The barrel surrounding the front sight base features border scrollwork followed by a flowing floral motif. All stock screws feature sunburst engraving with the reinforcement screw on the forend showing a sunflower motif. The magazine floorplate features the initials ESP engraved in high relief and enclosed with floral border scrollwork within diamond patterns. Schnabel forend mounts a horn cap, and both the wrist and forend feature bordered multipoint checkering with 24 lines per inch. Wood furniture shows a varnished finish overall. A cheek pad is molded into the left side of the butt, and a silver oval plate appears on the toe of the stock. The trapdoor buttplate features deep ports for cleaning equipment with fine checkering overall within decorative scrollwork. Rifle mounts a GRIFFIN & HOWE INC/NEW YORK marked leather sling patterned after the Model 1907 type suspended from engraved sling swivels.

Condition Report
Fine. Bore is Minty with sharp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows some cycling wear to the internals with operating abrasion to the exterior of the extractor. Blued finish shows some scattered light scratches. Oval plate is tarnished. The wood stock displays handling wear and some skips to the wrist and forend. Varnished finish thinning on the wrist and forend. Scope remains functional. The scope finish shows edgewear overall with some scuffs and mars.
