Condition Report
Framed: 31 x 26 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches.
Minor deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is not lined; areas of the painting have been overcleaned, including the left side of the man's face, as well as within the edges of his coat; network of craquelures throughout the surface, mostly visible only under raking light; two small areas of frame abrasions and associated paint loss along the extreme upper center edge; several pinpoint paint losses and scuffs along the lower left of the oval; pinpoint dark brown stains along the lower edge of the man's hat. Under UV light: areas of overcleaning fluoresce within man's face and along the edges of his coat, as well as his left shoulder; strokes of inpainting throughout the figure's clothes; one small, localized area of craquelure fill to the left of the figure's leg; inpainting along the upper left and lower right edges of the oval; selective cleaning of the varnish visible within the dog; additional areas of overcleaning that fluoresce scattered throughout the background.
