Lot Description
[REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. Middlesex Journal. No. 952. London, England: W. Griffin, 4 May 1775.
4pp., folio, 11 3/4 x 18 in. Disbound (partial separation at centerfold, some chipping to edges). Ink stamp p.3, lower right.
This issue contains a back page report of the orders to British General Gage to “…arrest the heads of the refractory Americans…This will be the signal of revolt for all the colonies, who will then pour down upon the King’s troops and put the opening of the war to an enthusiastic attack…” This exact series of events actually had taken place two weeks earlier with the Battles of Lexington and Concord, marking the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
