Lot Description
TAFT, William Howard (1857-1930). Typed letter signed, as Secretary of War, to Thomas F. Walsh. En route from Yellowstone Park to Portland, OR, 5 September 1907.
1 page, 4to, sight 8 3/8 x 10 3/8 in., framed with a photographic image of Taft observing a parade.
Taft writes to gold mine owner and prominent Denver resident Thoms F. Walsh thanking him for "the great hospitality which you and Mrs. Walsh showed me while I was in Denver." He also writes in thanks for his support: "I want to thank you also for your interest and sympathy in behalf of my prospects, and for your consent to become a member of the State delegation to the Nation Convention in my interest." He muses on his chances: "I of course cannot be sure what the complexion of the delegation will be, but I fancy from what I head, that with Mr. Roosevelt's positive declination, it will naturally swing around to me."
