This skirt was shown among Kawakubo’s collection for spring 2008, an overwhelming pastiche of layers and references, which the designer described as, “Clusters. Cacophony. Madness.” Interpreted by Sarah Mower as “a figurative observation of the state of modern urban consciousness”, in which Kawakubo removed “her mental filters and let in all the noise, clashing color, and fragmentary simultaneous imagery of the city crowd.”
