[MILITIA]. Model 1851 artillery shako. Manufactured by F.H. Lambert.
Visor to crown 6 3/4 in. Model 1851 blue wool shako with tarred leather visor and strap with 2 brass buttons (minor wear, some fading to top, tears to lining, visor partially detached, mismatched buttons, "C" button an early replacement); overall length 6 1/2 in., pompom approx. diameter 2 1/1 in. Model 1851 red artillery pompon with wood and brass mount (some minor staining); 1 3/4 x 2 1/2 in. Model 1851 die-struck brass eagle hat insignia, ca 1858-1872 design (some tarnish); 3/8 x 1/2 in. die-struck number 2 (some darkening); width 2 5/8 in. Model 1858 gilt die-struck artillery cap insignia, ca 1855-1865. Faded interior label.
