Lot Description
[MILITIA]. Ninth plate ambrotype of a New England militia private. [Boston: G.L. Whitaker], n.d.

Ninth plate ambrotype half portrait of an antebellum militia private with light tinting to cheeks. (Some spotting to image, discoloration to mat and preserver; unsealed.) Housed under mat, glass, and preserver only; no case. The goateed subject featured here wears a militia eagle waist belt plate (Gavin, Plate 42, p. 62), and white cross belts, and a shako with the letter "E" encircled by a wreath beneath eagle insignia.
