Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. 5th Model Burnside Carbine.

.54 caliber. 21 in. round barrel with single barrel band. SN: 1553. Produced with a blued and color casehardened finish and smooth oil-finished walnut stock and forend. Matching serial numbers on the frame and breechblock. Standard Burnside Rifle Company receiver markings are quite weak. Weak shadow of a cartouche is present on the reverse wrist. Retains correct leaf rear sight, fixed blade front sight and saddle bar with ring.

Fair condition. Retains no original finish with a mottled and heavily oxidized grayish-brown patina. Markings weak, metal with scattered roughness and some pitting. Mechanically functional action, fair bore with strong rifling is mostly bright near the breech and dark, dirty, and somewhat pitted near the muzzle. Wood dray and sanded with scattered bumps, dings, and mars.
