Advertising broadside for the store of Clark Moulton Smith (1820-1885), An store clerk from a young age, he married Ann Todd (1824-1891), Mary Todd Lincoln's younger sister. Upon relocating to Springfield, IL, Smith opened a large dry goods store, eventually expanding to 5 stores. The Lincolns and Smiths maintained a close relationship, with Abraham and Mary Lincoln keeping a credit account at Smith's store.
