[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 18 daguerreotype portraits of couples, highlighted by a half plate portrait by Enoch Long, including:
A half plate portrait of a young couple, the woman wearing a brooch and at least three rings on one hand. [St. Louis]: E. Long, n.d. (Some light tarnishing to lower left corner, minor spotting to image and some spotting to mat and preserver, great clarity overall; resealed 1996.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (fully separated at spine, surface wear throughout). -- A quarter plate portrait of an older couple, both subjects wearing eyeglasses, the male subject holding a large cased image on his lap. (Tarnishing to edges, with heavy spotting throughout; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (fully separated at spine, general wear throughout). -- A quarter plate portrait of a finely dressed couple, the man sitting and the woman standing next to him, leaning on his shoulder. (Tarnishing to edges, scratching along bottom edge, and spotting and clouding mostly to upper portion of image, with spotting to mat and preserver; original seals.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (significant wear throughout). -- And 15 others including 10 quarter plate examples and 5 sixth plate examples. Most without full cases, some not housed in cases. -- Together, 18 daguerreotypes featuring couples.
