Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 24 daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, and CDVs of children of varying ages, incl. a young boy posed with his dog.
Sixth plate ambrotype of a reclining baby. [Philadelphia]: Gutekunst, ca 1858-1860. (Some deterioration and residue to image, light spotting to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a Union case with geometric/scroll design (surface soiling, light wear to edges and corners). Mat stamped for Gutekunst. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a pair of young girls wearing matching outfits, each holding a cased image on her lap. (Tarnishing to edges, oxidation to preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (surface wear). -- A pair of approx. 2 x 2 7/8 in. tintype portraits featuring the same dog, one showing the dog on its own, the other showing the dog with a child. (Some darkening to images, corners clipped). Sealed into paper sleeves (soiling and discoloration). -- And 20 others, including 2 sixth plate daguerreotypes, 4 sixth plate ambrotypes, one sixth plate tintype, 3 ninth plate ambrotypes, 9 gem-sized (and larger) tintypes sealed in paper sleeves, and one CDV. -- Together, 24 images, 2 housed in Union cases and one housed in a Union frame.
