Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 19 daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, and CDVs featuring women, a family, and couples, highlighted by half plate daguerreotype of a young couple.
Half plate daguerreotype portrait of a finely dressed young couple. (Some clouding and residue to plate, tarnishing to edges, spotting to mat and preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (fully separated at spine, significant surface wear, and hardware for hanging or standing affixed to back cover). -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of an older woman wearing glasses, a bonnet, and gloves. (Tarnishing to edges, clouding to image, oxidation to mat; resealed.) Housed in a Union case with figural design, Family Enjoying the Piano 2 [Berg 1-120] (some surface soiling, light wear to edges, corners, and raised surfaces). -- Sixth plate seated portrait of a woman wearing flowers in her hair and holding what appears to be an album, diary, or cased image in her lap. (Scratching and residue to plate; resealed.) Housed in a red pressed paper case with floral design (surface wear). -- And 15 other images, including one quarter plate ambrotype, 3 sixth plate daguerreotypes, 2 sixth plate ambrotypes, 2 sixth plate tintypes, one ninth plate tintype, one sixteenth plate ambrotype, one sixteenth plate tintype, 2 cabinet cards (one being an illustration), and 3 CDVs. -- Together, 19 images, 3 housed in Union cases.
