Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [MILITARIA]. Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a German soldier and his wife.
Sixth plate daguerreotype. (Image extremely clear, light surface wear to plate near edges.) Housed in 4 1/2 x 5 in. wall frame (partial repair to top right edge of front of decorative frame, tape sealing image inside frame partially separated from frame backing, revealing cardboard backing). Tag affixed to verso with typed notation in German, as well as inked notation.
A continental daguerreotype of an officer from one of the German states seated beside his wife, holding her hand, his sword by his side. The subject's uniform indicates that he may represent the Jager regiment (light infantry). Alternatively, the brass scales suggest that he may be a heavy cavalry officer.
