She was born in Philadelphia and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, later followed by a master’s degree in British history from Northeastern Illinois University. She co-founded the Chicago Humanities Festival in 1990 and served as its president from 1989 to 2005. The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA) and Governor Pat Quinn appointed Mackevich as the Executive Director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois, a position she held from 2010 to 2015. Prior to her tenure at the Lincoln Presidential Library, she served as the executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission in Washington, D.C. from 2006 to 2009. Mackevich worked as a broadcast journalist and talk show host on WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio, and was named by the Chicago Sun-Times as one of the “100 Most Powerful Women in Chicago” in 2004. Hindman is pleased to offer property from the collection of such a significant local historian and civic leader.
