Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [RUSSIA]. Album containing photographs of Russia. Ca 1860s. 

4to (9 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.) 91 albumen photographs, majority approx. 5 1/4 x 8 in., or smaller, mounted recto on 8 3/4 x 11 3/4 in. album pages (toning to many prints especially to edges, spotting to album pages). Textured brown cloth gilt (spine lacking, wear to extremities).

Each photograph features image number and caption in Russian, printed in the negative. Each page features gilt photographer's credit to "D. Ermakow A. Tiflis, " (possibly Dmitri Ivanovich Ermakov, 1845-1916), along with series title, "Vues Et Types Du Caucase," (roughly, "Views of the Caucasus"). Some pages feature additional penciled inscriptions identifying subjects.

Photographs feature structures such as cathedrals, bridges, fortifications, along with landscape views, and portraits of people.

[With:] Cabinet card view of Hotel Russi, ca 1893 (toning, spotting to mount). Verso inscribed "Hotel 'Russi' / Sarattof [Saratov?], Russia / Feb 21st 1893."
