Color lithograph, 1864, image 22 5/8 x 14 5/8 in. (visible sheet 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 in.), on wove paper, toned, dampstaining at margins, framed to 26 1/2 x 20 3/4 in., not examined out of frame.
A bird's-eye-view of the Jarvis Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Built upon land confiscated by the Federal government from the Steuart family, when Captain George H. Steuart (1828-1903) and his father, Major George H. Steuart, resigned their U.S. Army commissions and joined the Confederacy. The Steuart mansion served as headquarters for the hospital, visible here at center. The lower margin lists the medical officers, hospital stewards, and officers of the Ladies Union Aid Society who were "In Charge" at the Jarvis U.S. General Hospital in Baltimore in 1864.
