Aquatint with hand-coloring, 1836, visible 23 x 17 1/2 in. (creasing at center, spotting); framed to 29 1/2 x 24 1/4 in. (chips, not examined out of frame). 

The Great Fire of New York ignited on the evening of 16 December 1835 in a warehouse at 25 Merchant Street (now Beaver St.) and was quickly spread by gale-force winds. The conflagration, which claimed 2 lives and hundreds of buildings over 17 blocks, was reportedly visible in Philadelphia.
