[CIVIL WAR]. GARDNER, Alexander, photographer. A group of 2 images of fallen Confederate soldiers at Antietam, including stereoview and magic lantern slide. Hartford, CT: Taylor & Huntington.
6 x 3 in. stereoview showing the Confederate dead from Stark's Louisiana Brigade on the Hagerstown Turnpike, positioned to the right of the fence north of the Dunker Church (toning to image; some edge and corner wear to mount). Recto with series title, "The War for the Union," and verso with Taylor & Huntington's imprint and descriptive information. Originally taken by Alexander Gardner following the Battle of Antietam on 17 September 1862.
[With:] 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 in. magic lantern slide in a 7 x 4 1/8 in. wood frame, showing the same scene, which is ink identified on the frame as "the Bloody Lane" at Antietam Battlefield (very good condition). With series title and credit to Taylor & Huntington printed in left and right margins of slide.
