Lot Description
[MEXICAN WAR]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of an officer holding his sword.

Sixth plate daguerreotype with hand-gilded details (tarnish at perimeter, lightened area at lower left); housed in half leatherette case (light scuffs, residue at hinge from former repair).

The somewhat portly subject is seated, looking directly at the camera, wearing his dress uniform coatee with epaulettes, embroidery, and a 2-piece circularly sword belt plate, possibly 1834 pattern or a similar militia model. In one hand he holds the hilt of a sword. In the lower corner, an area is lightened and an object with a complex pattern. Tentatively identified as a shako, it is possibly fabric or some other photographer's furnishing.
