Brady," as captioned in lower margin, with copyright information indicating that the original composite image was created in 1859 by Brady, New York (toning, some discoloration). A numbered list is included in the margins identifying the senators and states for which they served, with corresponding numbers written on each portrait. Notable subjects include Simon Cameron, Andrew Johnson, Stephen Douglas, William Seward, Charles Sumner, Hannibal Hamlin, Sam Houston, J.P. Benjamin, Joseph Lane, Jefferson Davis, and John C. Breckenridge. 

A composite portrait originally made just before the start of the Civil War, illustrating a number of individuals that would play a significant role in both the Union and Confederate governments in the years ahead.
