Lot Description
Christian Dior Small Lady Dior Bag by Anselm Reyle, 2011
The Dior Lady Bag first debuted in 1995 as the Chouchou bag, and was presented to Princess Diana by Bernadette Chirac, then-First Lady of France. It was renamed in 1996 to honor the late princess. It was launched during Gianfranco Ferré’s tenure using the ‘cannage’ pattern inspired by the cane-backed chairs favored by Christian Dior in his salons. The bag has since been canonized as a house staple, reinvented each season by the successive creative directors.
Anselm Reyle, a German contemporary artist who collaborated with Dior in 2011, incorporated unconventional material and neon color into this collection, which was described as ‘knowingly over-the-top, existing somewhere between über kitsch and the sublime.’
