Lot Description
[WORLD WAR II]. Cavalry Replacement Training Center Fort Riley, Kansas 1941. Baton Rouge, LA: The Army and Navy Publishing Company, 1941. Including African American Troops A and B, 8th Training Squadron.
4to. Photographic illustrations throughout. Original illustrated and embossed yellow cloth printed in red, white, and blue (very minor warping to boards). Provenance: Thomas M. Evans (ownership inscription to front free endpaper).
A yearbook from the 4th training regiment stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1941 prior to deployment in Europe during World War II. An unusual publication as the Black Troops A and B of the 8th Training Squadron are included alongside the 7th Training Squadron and other support departments. The US Army was not desegregated until after the War in 1948. Most military yearbooks from this era reflect the segregation present in the Army. RARE: OCLC locates only 2 copies, held at the US Army War College and Western Reserve Historical Society.
[With:] Somewhere in Germany "Saturday Night". [Germany], 5 May 1945.
8 3/8 x 9 3/4 in. watercolor on paper (some creasing). Included in the pages of the yearbook.
