Lot Description
[CIVIL RIGHTS]. A group of 2 publications, incl. The SCLC Story in Words and Pictures and Southwestern Conference of Black Elected Officials.

CLAYTON, Ed (1921-1966), editor. The SCLC Story in Words and Pictures. Atlanta, GA: Southern Christian Leadership Conference, 1964. 4to. Photographic illustrations throughout. Original publisher's pictorial wrappers (light creasing to corners, slight wear along spine, otherwise very good condition). FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING with an introduction by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and an early print appearance of his "I Have a Dream" speech.

[With:] SOUTHERN REGIONAL COUNCIL, VOTER EDUCATION PROJECT. Conference Proceedings: Southwide Conference of Black Elected Officials. Dec. 11-14, 1968. Dinkler Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta, GA: Voter Education Project, 1968. 4to. Photographic illustrations throughout. Original publisher's pictorial wrappers (light edge wear, otherwise very good condition). Includes addresses by Shirley Chisholm, Julian Bond, and other prominent Black leaders of the time. In 1968, 385 Blacks held elected office throughout the south. Of those, 200 of varying prominence attended this conference. An interesting look into the Black political sphere in the south at the end of what is considered to be the Civil Rights Movement-era.
