Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY -- OCCUPATIONAL]. 4 ambrotypes and tintypes, incl. an ambrotype with a sculptor.

Sixth plate ruby ambrotype portrait of a sculptor wearing a vest and apron, holding what appears to be a chisel and mallet, and standing next to a pillar upon which rests a large urn. (Heavy surface scratching throughout image, significantly affecting subject, and softening to focus throughout; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (significant damage including nearly full separation to spine and loss to portions of case). -- Quarter plate ambrotype of a bearded blacksmith wearing a hat and apron, and posed with numerous tools of his trade including a hammer, anvil, and other devices. (Small portions of image missing including significant spot on subject's face, spotting and some crackling throughout image, heavy oxidation to mat and preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (significant wear and finish loss). -- And 2 other loose sixth plate or CDV-sized tintypes. -- Together, 4 occupational portraits.
