Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. The Dexter Saloon. Business card identified to Wyatt Earp and C.E. Hoxsie.
4 x 2 1/2 in. printed business card from the Dexter Saloon in Nome, Alaska (some toning, 1 3/8 in. tear to left edge, near top corner). The names of proprietors Wyatt Earp and Charles Ellsworth Hoxsie are listed in the lower margin.
Earp, who had operated a number of successful saloons after leaving Tombstone, opened the Dexter Saloon in Nome in the fall of 1899. It was Nome's first two-story building and its largest saloon, and became a sort of de facto town hall and gathering place due to its large size. Earp left Nome in 1901 with over $80,000 in profit.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
