Four Victorian & Edwardian Bodices, 1890-1900s


This lot contains four bodices.

THE FIRST 
White cotton s-curve bodice with lace insertion throughout. The bodice is cut with a stand collar, long sleeves with a flared hem gathered into a lace cuff, and a waistline that is much higher in back than the front. The bodice closes down the center back with buttons.

THE SECOND
Tan linen shirtwaist with vertical machine-stitched tucks, full long sleeves gathered into a wide cuff, and a center front button closure. There is an inner bodice of off-white startched fabric. The waistline features additional buttons where a skirt or additional item was likely buttoned.

THE THIRD
Green, pink, and white plaid cotton blouse with a stand collar, gathered front section, long leg-o-mutton sleeves gathered into a wide cuff, and a center front placket with button holes. The bodice is gathered into the front and pleated into the back. The bodice has no buttons, only button holes, to allow for ease with laundering.

THE FOURTH 
Black pleated silk chiffon s-curve bodice trimmed with cream and metallic lace and red silk. The stand collar is made with cream and metallic lace and edged with silk cord. The collar is supported by wire boning. The bodice and sleeves are underlined in white silk and the center front and sleeve hems are trimmed with red silk and cream lace. There are decorative rhinestone buttones down the center front. The inner bodice is made of white cotton with ruffles at the center front to support the s-curve silhouette.

Condition Report

Condition:

THE FIRST 
The overall condition is good with an open seam on the waistband and a couple of original skipped stitches where the is inserted into the cotton. There are four small holes in the right underarm. 

THE SECOND 
The overall condition is very good. The cuffs appear over pressed and there are some minor discolorations in the underbodice, but overall this is in a very good condition. 

THE THIRD 
The overall condition is good with brown spots at the center back, front hem, sleeve hem, and an ink stain near the left side waist. Some loose stitching along the waistband. 

THE FOURTH 
The overall condition of the exterior is in good condition with two small pin holes in the black chiffon at the back hem. The silk underlayer is brittle.
