American or French School, 19th Century

Frame 14 x 11 inches.

The back of the frame retains a printed label reading MFA / 93 / BB and another label printed M.F.A. with the lender’s name W.H. Whitmore. 

This portrait is part of a group of twenty-two depicting members of the 'French Assembly', loaned to the MFA Boston in 1895 by William Whitmore and later sold as part of his estate in 1902, alongside a portrait of Thomas Jefferson.
