Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Confederate ordnance document ordering "fluid grenades." New Orleans, LA, 2 April 1862.
One page, 7 5/8 x 9 5/8 in., creased, with a few small separations. Docketed verso.

Partly printed document ordering a total of 320 fluid grenades "for use of Gunboats," the total amount for which is $760.

The fluid grenades, likely similar to today's "Molotov Cocktail," ordered on the document featured here were most likely intended for use on the vessels Little Rebel, J.C. Breckenridge, Sumter, General Lovell, and others at New Orleans in early April. On 24 April, at Forts Jackson and St. Phillip, Confederate gun boats engaged with the Federal West Gulf Blockading Squadron, just below New Orleans.
