[MILITARIA]. MAHAN, Dennis H. (1802-1871). Summary of the Course of Permanent Fortification. Identified to CSA Colonel Robert Johnston. [With:] Photograph of Dennis H. Mahan.
[MAHAN, Dennis H.]. Summary of the Course of Permanent Fortification: System of Fortification Drawing. N.p.: n.p., n.d., ca 1840s. 8vo. (Occasional spotting throughout.) Half brown leather with marbled paper sides (edge and corner wear). FFEP inscribed, "Ro. Johnston 1st Capt. Corps Cadets / West Point / New York 1850," and, "No. 64 New Barracks / Occupied with Armistead L. Long 2nd Lt. D Compy / first occupants." Acquired by Colonel Robert Johnston while a cadet at West Point (Class of 1850). Armistead Long would become Colonel Long, CSA, and was General Robert E. Lee's military secretary.
[With:] 4 x 5 3/4 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount of Dennis H. Mahan. Uncredited. Mahan was a distinguished international scholar, military theorist, and professor of engineering at West Point from 1824-1871.
