[CIVIL WAR]. FARRAGUT, David G. A. (1801-1870). A group of 3 signed items, including letters.
Letter signed. New York. 2 pages, on bifolium, 5 1/8 x 8 1/8 in. (creased at old folds, some staining throughout, with adhesive/paper residue to verso). With original postally used cover. On unidentified nautical letterhead. In this letter to William D. Lewis, Farragut acknowledges receipt of the Tribute book presented to him by the Committee of the Soldiers and Sailors Fair at Philadelphia. -- Letter signed. Boston, 7 May 1815. One page, 7 3/4 x 9 3/4 in. (creased at old folds, dampstaining throughout, chipping, separation with some adhesive repair, and loss to edges and corners). Docketed verso. In this letter to Thomas Turner, Esq., Farragut outlines his expenses for his travel from New York to Boston, "having been ordered to join the Ship Independence…” -- 3 ¼ x 1 7/8 in. clipped signature (soiling). “D.G. Farragut, Admiral, U.S. Navy.” -- Together, 3 items signed by David G. Farragut.
[With:] 4 pages, 4 ¾ x 7 ½ in. printed proclamation (both pages completely separated from one another, soiling and some staining throughout). Headquarters, Department of the Gulf, New Orleans, 1 May 1862. Undersigned in print by Major General Butler. Proclamation announces that the city of New Orleans has been surrendered to the "naval and land forces of the United States who have come to restore order, maintain public tranquility, enforce peace and quiet under the Laws and Constitution of the United States..."
