Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. ID disc of Alexander Campbell, Company B, 154th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Ex Julian Converse collection.
30mm dia. identification disc (surface wear, patination, condition consistent with use) with figural eagle bar including pinback and hanger. Obverse features engraved identification: "Alexander Campbell / Co. B. / 154 Regt. P.V." Reverse with blank center, surrounded by olive branch motif and legend "War of 1861 / Engaged in the Above Battles."
Provenance: Julian Converse (manuscript ledger sheet listing the item and its original purchase date).
Alexander Campbell enlisted as a private on 8 November 1862, mustering into Company B of the 154th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment the same day. He was promoted to first lieutenant in January of 1863, and dismissed from service that June. Companies A, B, and C of the 154th Pennsylvania were assigned to provost duty in the city of Philadelphia after mustering into service.
