Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Union playing cards housed in Civil War soldier's folk art carved case.
50 Civil War Union playing cards with patriotic motifs (missing the "ace" and "ten" of Eagles; significant soiling and wear to cards consistent with age and use, a few cards with some paper loss). Folk art carved wooden carrying box features rows and columns of holes, separated into rectangles featuring two columns of five holes each, possibly intended to serve as a cribbage board (scratching, surface wear, some looseness to hinges).
Patriotic emblems are used in place of the traditional suits and faces. Specifically, the suits are eagles, shields, stars and flags, and the faces are the Goddess of Liberty, Colonel, and Major.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
