Oblong 4to. Engraved folding map of Sacramento County hand-colored in wash (short tear to fold); engraved map of California Nevada, Utah, and Arizona hand-colored in wash and outline; profusely illustrated with lithographed plates. (Frontispiece and a few leaves with tears repaired or reinforced in margins.) Publisher's cloth gilt (rebacked preserving portion of original spine, some light wear). Provenance: City Library, Sacramento California (stamp, a few small annotations).
FIRST EDITION of this comprehensive pictorial history of Sacramento county and its development. Illustrations include depictions of the state capitol, courthouses, the Sacramento Brewery, the Arcade Hotel, the offices of the Sacramento Bee, cattle ranches, farms, and lumber yards. Illustrations also depict the residences of Mrs. E. B. Crocker, Albert Gallatin, and Frederic Cox, as well as other more modest homes. Howes S-9 ("B").
