3 x 1 15/16 in. CDV on cardstock mount (toning to print; mount with discoloration, soiling, and light wear to edges and corners). Paper label affixed to verso features title and photographer's credit. Landscape-oriented image features a large captured Confederate cannon guarded by an armed Union soldier.
Fort Welles was so-named after being captured by Union forces on 7 November 1861. It was previously established as "Fort Walker" by Confederate forces in May of 1861.
