Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 2 sixth plate tintypes of civilians, incl. young men in boots & drummer boy.
Sixth plate tintype standing portrait of a young drummer standing before a painted backdrop. (Image a bit dark, heavy spotting/oxidation to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear).
The boy stands wearing his snare drum on a strap, and holding his drumsticks to the head of the drum. Behind image is a small clipped newspaper obituary for "Mr. Henry C. Grayson, who died of consumption at his father's home in North Scituate on Sunday night, had been head bookkeeper at Lapham's Mills, Centreville, for about twelve years..." This could provide an identity for the pictured subject.
[With:] Sixth plate tintype of two confident young men seated in a studio, each wearing tall boots. (Some creasing to plate.) Housed in pressed paper case that is not original to tintype (surface wear, hinge reinforced at spine).
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
