[CIVIL WAR] -- [AFRICAN AMERICANA]. Two documents, comprising:
Printed document: “Head Quarters Negro Affairs, / Department of Virginia and North Carolina, / Circular Order, No. 6 Gen Supt’s Office. Fort Monroe, Va., June 26th, 1864 / Any officer in the department of Negro Affairs, or any civilian subject to its control, who violates Pars. 11 and 14 of General Orders No. 46, dated Fort Monroe, Va., December 5th, 1863, regulating correspondence will be punished with military severity. / By command of Major General B. F. Butler: / J. B. Kinsman, Lieut. Col. and A. D. C., / Gen. Sup’t Negro Affairs.” On the verso: DAVIDSON, J. H. ALs, n.d., to Thomas LATCHFORD, Capt. & A. A. A. Genl, City Point: The CONCIRDIA has neither coal water or rations on board and the bunks for the men are not quite complete. I have a large force at work from the regt. Getting in Coal; but we cant embark on her before the 23d; everything goes on smoothly thus far.” Signed J. Ham Davidson / 122d U.S. C. T.[?].”
WILSON, Captain A. M. ALs, text of a telegram, 12 p., 4to, on stationery of “Headquarters Military Division of the Mississippi,” 2 May, 1865, from Morehead City, NC to Capt. Webber [indecipherable word] of Goldsboro, NC: “Col A. Beckwith directs that you send all the Nigroes[?] in your city that are not employed to this City under guard of Capt Boots.” In March 1865, Sherman’s troops joined Schofield’s at Goldsboro and, over the course of three weeks, amassed about 100,000 men there.
