Manuscript copy letter to Andrew Jackson from Solicitor of the Treasury, Virgil Maxcy (1785-1844). Washington, D.C., 16 August 1830.
4 pages, 4to, old creases, some adhesive residue to left edge. Docketed to fourth page "Copy of a letter / to Andrew Jackson / Aug. 17 1830 / Circular."
Maxcy addresses President Jackson: "I have the honor to send for your inspection the Circ ular, which I have addressed to the several officers, who are placed but he law, creating the office of the Solicitor of the Treasy., under my direction." Maxcy served as Solititor of the Treasury from 1830 to 1837, a position created on 29 May 1830, supervising the legal proceedings involving the collections of debts due the United States.
