2 volumes, 8vo. Engraved portrait frontispieces, 3 color folding maps in rear pockets. (Some offsetting of frontispieces to titles, slight marginal toning, one map with a few short tears along folds.) Original pictorial green cloth gilt and stamped in black (slight rubbing).
FIRST AMERICAN TRADE EDITION of Stanley’s account as leader of the controversial Emin Pasha Relief Expedition (1886-1889) in the Congo.
