Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Antietam grouping, incl. printed Order of Services for Funeral of Capt. Clark S. Simonds, 15th Mass, KIA Antietam. 23 September 1862.
Order of Services at the Funeral of Capt. Clark S. Simonds, September 23d, 1862. 5 x 8 in., 3pp., with mourning borders (minimal spotting, light folds). Clark S. Simonds was working as a scythe maker in Fitchburg, MA, when he enlisted on 7/30/1861 as a 1st lieutenant and was commissioned into Company B, 15th Massachusetts Infantry. He was promoted to captain 8/1/1861, POW 10/21/1861 at Ball's Bluff, VA, and confined 10/24/1861 at Richmond, VA (Liggon Tobacco factory). He was KIA on 9/17/1862 at Antietam, MD.
[With:] 3 post-Civil War boudoir photographs of the Antietam Battlefield, each 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 in. on cardstock mount (fading, light surface wear). Uncredited, but with modern notations on verso. Scenes include the Antietam National Cemetery and Monument, Dunker Church, and "the Bridge." -- 5 printed postcards of notable landmarks and monuments at Antietam (overall good, one with light stain to edge).
