Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate ambrotype featuring an accomplished musician posed with three instruments.
Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a gentleman holding an over-the-shoulder brass baritone, sitting next to a string bass and in front of a piano-forte. (Minimal spotting to plate, rub marks to mat opening, spotting to mat; re-glassed and resealed 2003.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Subject sports thick sideburns, a high coiffed hairstyle, and a long checkered jacket. His vest, the baritone, and the string bass are all hand-tinted. Two music booklets are also featured atop the piano-forte, one reading "Old Mountain Tree" and the other "Fairy Dell."
