Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate ruby ambrotype showing an intense game of checkers.
Sixth plate ruby ambrotype portrait of two men engaged in a game of checkers. (Spotting throughout plate; cleaned and resealed 2021.) Housed in a pressed paper case (spotting to velvet pad, clasp missing, loss to outer finish). The younger subject is featured smoking a cigar and studying the game board with determination. The older subject gazes directly at his opponent with one hand on the board, which rests across the players' laps. Subjects are seated in front of a painted backdrop that does not take up the entire background.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
