Mount recto blindstamped "Choate" to lower left and "Carlisle, Pa." to lower right. Images features 19 female students arranged in rows, with a white woman who is most likely their teacher standing at the back. The group is posed outdoors on school grounds. One student holds a book open on her lap and another student holds a fan.

John N. Choate (1848-1902) began a long photographic career at Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1879 when the famous Carlisle Indian Industrial School was founded.
