Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate outdoor tintype featuring a trio of Union pards showing off their canteens.
Outdoor view featuring 3 young soldiers posing with their Model 1858 smooth side canteens. Two wear military-style waistcoats and watch chains and hold their canteens down at their sides; while one holds his canteen up to his lips as if taking a drink. (Chemical deterioration throughout plate, causing discoloration and loss of clarity, some surface loss; unsealed.) Housed in a Union case (soiling, nicking).
These young pards have a rough and ready quality about them, which, together with their unofficial garb including personalized hats, could be suggestive of western theater federals who have been on campaign for some time.
