[CIVIL WAR]. 70th Illinois Volunteer Infantry ladder badge identified to A.H. Mallory.
3-part brass badge, approx. 1 3/4 x 2 3/4 in., top part engraved "Co. F," middle part engraved "70" Ill.," with shield suspended below, engraved, "Vol. Inf. / War 1861-5 / A.H. Mallory" (some surface wear, including some discoloration, some wear to engraved lettering).
Ambrose H. Mallory, a resident of Jacksonville, FL, enlisted on 7/4/1862 as a private and mustered into Company F, 70th Illinois Infantry. The regiment was organized at Camp Butler, IL, and remained there on guard duty until mustering out 10/23/1862.
