[CIVIL WAR]. 8th Wisconsin Battery Light Artillery ladder badge identified to J.H. Peanor.
2-part brass badge, approx. 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 in., top part engraved "J.H. Peanor," with shield suspended below, engraved, "8th Wis. / Battery. / Light. Art." Reverse of shield marked "J.S. Ginger, St. Louis," and Trebus & Steiner, St. Louis" (some surface wear, including some discoloration, wear to engraved lettering).
Stevens Point, WI, resident James H. Peanor enlisted on 11/3/1861 as a private and mustered into the 8th Wisconsin Light Artillery on 11/3/1861. After more than 3 years of service, Peanor mustered out on 3/24/1865. The 8th Wisconsin Light Artillery saw action at Corinth, Perryville, Stone's River, Chickamauga, and Chattanooga.
