Leominster, Massachusetts, Circa 1820

identified Wrought by Sophia Carter Age / 12 years Leominster June / 1820, with verse at center, surrounded by foliate, floral, and fruit motifs.
17 x 15 1/4 inches.
Genealogical records confirm that Sophia Carter was born on August 20, 1805 in Leominster, Massachusetts to Peter and Rhoda Dyer Carter. She married Elisha Carter (1803-1843) on April 9, 1829, and the couple had one daughter, Sylvia Ann. Sophia died on September 5, 1850.
