.45 Colt. 5.5" round barrel. SN: 54679 (ca1880). Old refinished blue frame and hammer with balance of parts casehardened and mounting one piece walnut grips. Single-action loading gate revolver with a martially inspected frame. The serial numbers do not match on the frame and gripstraps, as is typical with martial Colt revolvers. The loading gate assembly number reads 531. The left frame is struck with the "three-date in three-line" patent information beside a U.S. property stamp. The barrel has no visible address but shows traces of a possible RAC inspection and a P proof marking, the former is the marking of inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. Further marks include a clearly visible D.F.C. inspection mark on the frame of inspector David F. Clark. A K stamp appears on the rear gripstrap, and an H stamp to the hammer recess. "K" marked parts are typically believed to be spare parts produced for the military circa 1890-1891. The cylinder has no legible serial number or inspection marking though there is a P proof to the rear face. The revolver mounts a bullseye pattern ejector-rod head, and the hammer has borderless knurling on the spur. The stocks have no extant inspection markings.
Very Good. Bore is Frosty with patina forming throughout and strong rifling. The frame shows some rounding at the forward edges from aggressive cleaning with a brown patina dominating. Some blued refinish visible on the flanks of the forward frame, the flanks of the hammer, and the rear edge of the barrel. The markings on the barrel are worn down with scattered dings and mars along the left flank of the barrel followed by light pitting near the muzzle. The cylinder stops are worn, and the cylinder shows a continuous drag line. Cylinder shows some scattered light pitting at the front of multiple chambers. Stocks have rounded edges indicative of sanding and refinishing along with some handling wear and mars. The edges of the grips are chipped, and they do not fully cover the flanks of the gripstraps. All three grip screws are replacements. The action times and indexes correctly with slight wiggle to the lockup.
