Restored Colt Model 1860 Richards-Mason Conversion Revolver

.44 Centerfire. 8" barrel length. SN: 4408. (Mfg. Ca 1861 and later converted) Nickel plated refinish overall with roll engraved naval scene on the cylinder and one piece walnut grips. Single-action loading gate revolver displaying numerous components consistent with the Richards-Mason cartridge conversion. Item mounts the Richards-Mason pattern hammer with fixed firing pin installed with two pins, and mounts a conversion ring without rear sight. The left frame is marked -PAT. JULY. 25. 1871.-/-PAT. JULY. 2. 1872.-, and the top of the barrel shows the barrel address COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. with front blade and hammer notch sights. The left triggerguard is marked 44 CAL, and the initial C is marked into the hammer recess with the initials Z and B. The rear of the rebated cylinder is struck S. Loading gate is struck with the assembly number 475. Mounts the Mason pattern ejector rod housing with the target pattern ejector rod head. The serial numbers on the gripstraps, frame, barrel, cylinder, spring wedge pin, and arbor pin all match. The grips are modern replacements and show marker applied serial number to the interior of the grips. The serial number of this item falls below the range of Richards-Mason Colts produced as new from stock parts, suggesting it was sent back to Colt for conversion.

Condition Report

Very Fine as Restored. Bore is Frosty with some weakness to the rifling and signs of flaking to the nickel throughout. The barrel shows light scratches with some nicks along the underside of the barrel that have been filled in with nickel. Some light pitting visible on the interior frame additionally filled in with nickel. The finish on the frame shows some spots of thinning. There is a nick on the right edge of the barrel lug with a flake of nickel dangling off it. The rear edges of the cylinder have some spots of flattening. The grips display some scattered light dents on the right side and two further light dents along the left edge. The cylinder has a faint turn ring. The action times and indexes correctly.
