Smith & Wesson Model 1917
World War I
.45 ACP. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 142131. Blued metal finish with case colored hammer, lanyard loop, and trigger mounting smooth walnut grips with lanyard loop to butt. Double action six-shot hand ejector revolver mounting half-moon front blade and topstrap notch sights. Markings include U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917 to the butt and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" beneath the barrel. An {Ordnance Bomb} mark is visible on the left frame. {Eagle Head/S2} inspector marks struck into the inner frame, on the underside of the barrel, with S24 struck into the rear cylinder. A further {Eagle Head/6} is struck into the left frame above the triggerguard. Serial numbers match on the barrel, frame, cylinder, and beneath the star extractor. The assembly number to the inner frame reads 16928, while the number 18968 penciled to the interior grip panels indicates they have been replaced. Standard barrel address and patent marking reads SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A./PATENTED DEC. 17. 1901 FEB. 6. 1906. SEP. 14. 1909. Hammer, trigger, and lanyard loop possibly refinished.
