Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. A group of 2 tintypes of male and female Mesquakie subjects, incl. Jack Bear of the Nemaha Band.
2 tintypes, each approx. 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. Subjects include: Portrait of an unidentified Mesquakie woman (creasing and some areas surface loss to plate). -- Portrait of two Mesquakie men, including Jack Bear of the Nemaha Band at left (some surface loss and mottling to plate, areas of oxidation). The subjects are shown wearing grizzly bear claw necklaces and holding tomahawks. Provenance: Consignor relates that the tintypes were acquired from a Mesquakie family.
